NarMob Privacy Policy
Last updated: September 7, 2026
This is the supplemental privacy policy for NarMob (package io.chkdsklabs.narmob), an Android editor for Dialogue Manager .dialogue files by CHKDSK Labs. It ships in two editions: a free, ad-supported edition on Google Play and a paid, ad-free edition on itch.io. It should be read alongside our company-wide Privacy Policy, which sets the baseline for all CHKDSK Labs products. Where this document is more specific, it controls for NarMob.
1. The Short Version
- NarMob has no accounts and no CHKDSK Labs servers. We never see your name, email, or what you write.
- Your dialogue files and the game-state list you describe live only on your device until you choose to share or save them somewhere else.
- The Google Play edition shows a banner ad served by Google AdMob on two screens. Google processes device data for that as described below.
- The itch.io edition contains no advertising code at all and does not even request permission to use the internet.
- There are no subscriptions and no in-app purchases in either edition.
2. Data We Collect Directly
None. The app does not transmit your dialogue, your game-state list, or any personal data to CHKDSK Labs. There is no analytics or crash-reporting SDK in the app. Everything you write is stored in the app's private storage on your device (see Section 5) and leaves it only by your own action (see Section 6).
3. Advertising (Google AdMob) — Play Edition Only
The Google Play edition shows a single banner ad, served by Google AdMob, at the bottom of the file list and the preview screen. There are no ads in the editor itself, no full-screen ads, and no rewarded ads. To serve and measure the banner, Google and its ad technology partners may collect and process:
- Device identifiers, including the Android advertising ID
- IP address and coarse location derived from it
- Ad interaction data (impressions and clicks)
- General device and app information (model, OS version)
This processing is governed by the Google Privacy Policy. The advertising SDK is not initialised, and no ad is requested, until Google's User Messaging Platform consent flow has been resolved; in the EEA, UK, and other consent regions that means the consent form is shown on first launch before anything is shared. Where the law requires it, you can revisit your choice at any time via ⋮ → Privacy options on the file list, and you can reset or delete your advertising ID in Android's system settings (Settings → Privacy → Ads).
The itch.io edition is built without the advertising SDK and without the INTERNET or AD_ID permissions. None of the above applies to it.
4. Distribution
Google Play. The free edition is distributed through Google Play. Google handles installation and updates under its own terms. What reaches us from the Play Console is aggregated, non-identifying install, crash, and rating statistics.
itch.io. The paid edition is sold through itch.io, which processes the payment under its own terms and privacy policy. We never receive, process, or store payment card numbers or banking details. itch.io makes the purchase record — including the email address on your itch.io account, if you have one — visible to us in its seller dashboard. We use that only to answer support questions and honour refunds, we do not export it, and we do not add it to any list. The app itself has no licence check and never contacts itch.io or us.
5. Local Device Storage
Your dialogue files are stored as plain text in the app's private storage on your device. The game-state list — the names of the globals, properties, methods, and signals you register so the editor can offer completions — is stored alongside them as a small JSON file. A private preferences file remembers whether the sample file has been created. None of this is transmitted to us and there is no cloud copy.
Android backup is left at the system default, so if you have device backup switched on, Google may include the app's private files in your own Google account backup under Google's terms. Uninstalling the app or clearing its data deletes everything locally; make sure you have exported anything you want to keep first.
6. Import, Export, and Sharing
Files move in and out of NarMob only when you ask them to, and only through Android's own document picker and share sheet. The app requests no storage permission and cannot browse your files on its own.
- Import reads exactly the file you pick, or a file another app hands to the app via “Open with”, and copies its text into private storage.
- Save to device writes the file to wherever you point the picker — an SD card, a synced folder, a cloud drive. Whatever lives at that destination is governed by that provider, not by us.
- Share hands a copy of the file, a zip of all your files, or a generated script to the app you choose in the share sheet. The copy is staged in the app's private cache and the receiving app gets one-time read access to it.
What you write may of course contain personal data about you or others — names, story details, whatever your game needs. We never see it. Where it goes when you share it is between you and the app you share it with.
7. Permissions
The Play edition requests INTERNET and ACCESS_NETWORK_STATE to fetch the banner, and AD_ID so AdMob can read the advertising ID subject to your consent. The itch.io edition requests no permissions at all. Neither edition requests location, camera, microphone, contacts, or storage.
8. Children's Privacy
NarMob is a writing tool, not directed at children under 13, and we do not knowingly collect personal data from children. Ad serving in the Play edition is configured through Google's tools consistent with the app's content rating.
9. Your Rights and Choices
- Ad consent — revisit your consent choice in the Play edition via ⋮ → Privacy options on the file list, wherever the law gives you that choice
- Ad personalization — reset or delete your advertising ID in Android system settings
- No ads at all — buy the itch.io edition, which has none
- Portability — your files are plain text; Share or Save to device gets them out at any time, and Share all as .zip gets all of them out at once
- Deletion — delete files inside the app, or clear the app's data or uninstall to erase everything locally
- Data held by Google or itch.io — exercise rights over ad data or purchase records directly with the platform through your own account controls
Since we hold no personal data about you beyond an itch.io purchase record we can see but do not keep, access/correction requests to CHKDSK Labs will come back nearly empty — but the rights described in the company-wide policy apply all the same.
10. Changes to This Policy
We may update this policy as the app or applicable law changes. The “Last updated” date above reflects the most recent revision; material changes will be noted on this page.
